ST PETER — Police are investigating two deaths at a house in St. Peter Monday evening.
Police Chief Matt Peters said two bodies, one male and one female, were found at 601 S. Front St. (map) at about 5:35 p.m. No one was living at the house, which is in the process of being renovated, Peters said. The house had been foreclosed on recently and is located directly behind the Nicollet County Courthouse.
Both victims appeared to have been shot, Peters said. The house and several vehicles had been secured by police tape.
The bodies were found by someone who called 911 to report a woman needed an ambulance for a possible gunshot wound. The male’s body was found a short time later.
Investigators were still waiting for search warrants to be approved at about 9:15 p.m. Monday. They were preparing to search the house and gather evidence, Peters said. One Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent was in St. Peter at that point, but investigators were still waiting for state crime scene investigators.
Peters said he couldn’t say for sure if it was a murder-suicide investigation, but he did say police were not searching for any suspects and no one had been arrested. He also said he wasn’t sure who the victims were as of Monday night.
“We have an idea who it is, but they haven’t been positively identified,” he said.
