Update: 84-year-old dies in semi, car crash on 169

Serious crash near Le Sueur

LE SUEUR — An unnamed 84-year-old from Brooklyn Center died Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving a semi on Highway 169 north of Le Sueur, according to the State Patrol.

At about 2:30 p.m. a 2000 Peterbuilt Conventional semi driven by Lonnie E. Heidegger, 35, of New Germany was northbound on Highway 169. A 2009 Hyundai Sonata driven by Marcia A. Vahl, 61, of Maple Grove also was northbound when the two vehicles collided. The 84-year-old was a passenger in the Sonata.

Vahl was seriously injured, according to the State Patrol. Heidegger was not injured.

The northbound lanes of 169 north of Le Sueur were closed for about 90 minutes following the crash and traffic was rerouted.

Le Sueur Fire and Ambulance and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
