Two suspects arrested after Kohl's robbery

Two arrested Wednesday

MANKATO — An attempted parking lot robbery was thwarted by a store employee Tuesday night and two suspects, who fled before police arrived, have been arrested.

A 51-year-old woman was leaving the Kohl’s store, 1921 Bassett Drive, just after 9 p.m. when she was approached by a man and a woman and assaulted, Mankato police said. One of the suspects threatened her with a knife while they attempted to pull her purse from her shoulder.

The woman struggled with the suspects and yelled for help, prompting a man who is employed at the store to assist her.

“At that time he responded to right where she was and helped her escape,” said Cmdr. Dan Schisel. “They did not get away with anything.”

The woman received a minor puncture wound to her body but was not treated at the scene nor taken to the hospital by ambulance. The suspects ran to a nearby car and drove away before police arrived. The car was later found, but it had been abandoned.

Two people were arrested Wednesday and are currently in the Blue Earth County Jail awaiting charges. They are Jesus Arroyo III, 20, and Josefina Arreola, 29, both of Le Center. Charges will be determined after the investigation is complete and the information is forwarded to the Blue Earth County Attorney’s Office.

The names of the victim and the man who helped her have not been released.

Schisel reminded people to be alert to their surroundings, especially after dark. If something looks suspicious in a parking lot, return to the store and request an escort, he said.
