If Mankato-area folks need another reason to watch the new season of “American Idol,” here it is: West High School’s Shelby Tweten is one of the contestants.
How far did she go in the competition? No idea, except widespread rumors indicate she made it to Hollywood week.
Area business owners, community members and students have been anonymously tipping us off for weeks that Tweten auditioned in Colorado and progressed on the show. But her family can’t say a word. Tweten’s mom, Karrey, could only direct us to Tweten’s media representative.
And, hey, that’s kind of confirmation in itself, isn’t it? Why would she need a media representative if she hasn’t been doing pretty well on the show?
Tweten often is asked to sing the national anthem at area events, including the Mankato MoonDogs. She’s also on the West Orchesis Dance Team.
The new season of “American Idol” kicks off with a two-night premiere 7 p.m. Jan. 18 and 19 on Fox.
