---- — Though cold weather kept schoolchildren off sidewalks Thursday, they’re still eager to get their feet pumping.

A month’s worth of biking- and walking-themed events in Mankato, for both children and adults, kicked off with a safety rally and bike helmet sale at River Hills Mall on Thursday.

Two Mankato elementary schools, Rosa Parks and Roosevelt, had planned a bike and walk to school day on Wednesday but postponed it for a week.

Greater Mankato Bike and Walk week is slated to start May 12. It’s organized by the Greater Mankato Bike & Walk Advocates.
