MANKATO — A woman was carjacked early Tuesday morning in Mankato, and her car was reported to be connected to an armed standoff later that day in Austin.
Mankato police Sgt. Chris Baukol said the woman called police at 12:33 a.m. saying she was standing next to her car on the 200 block of Briargate Road when she was approached by two men with a weapon. Baukol declined to describe the weapon.
The men took her car, though she was unhurt.
Austin police told the Austin Daily Herald that the car was found in that city and a standoff at that residence had started by about 9:30 a.m.
Two people were arrested during the nine-hour standoff, though Austin police told the newspaper that at least one man involved in the carjacking was still at large. He is Thomas Kendricks III, 22.
"We believe he is directly connected with the carjacking in Mankato," Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger told the Herald.
