MANKATO — The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, has recognized Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato with Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers.
To earn certification, Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato had to demonstrate its program met criteria to achieve long-term success in improving stroke patient outcomes.
The system underwent an on-site review in November. A Joint Commission expert reviewed the organization's performance in using effective stroke care and assessed Mayo's approach to improvement of stroke care. The review noted that Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato has made great progress in raising the quality of stroke care.
Developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association and launched in 2003, the Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification program is available only to stroke programs in Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals.
