Mapleton doctor chosen as finalist for Family Physician of year

MAPLETON — The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians has announced that Dr. Carolyn Becker, a family physician who practices at Mankato Clinic-Mapleton, is one of four finalists for the 2013 Family Physician of the Year Award.

Family physicians were nominated for the award by patients and colleagues.

The MAFP board of directors will select a winner after reviewing each finalist’s qualifications and reading nomination letters received on their behalf.

The winner will be recognized at the MAFP annual meeting April 18. The other finalists are Dr. Steven Ferguson, Alexandria; Dr. Donald Hughes, Aitkin; and Dr. Steven Long, Duluth.

The Family Physician of the Year Award is presented annually to a family physician who represents the highest ideals of the specialty of family medicine, including caring, comprehensive medical service, community involvement and service as a role model.

Becker was also selected as a finalist for the Minnesota Family Physician of the Year Award in 2009.

The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a professional association of about 3,000 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students.
