A 37-year-old man with no permanent address has been arrested and was charged Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in March.
The woman contacted the Mankato Department of Public Safety on March 22 to report she had been sexually assaulted the day before after traveling to Mankato with a man she only knew as Jason. She had arranged to get a ride from St. Cloud to Mankato with the man on March 21 through a mutual friend.
She said they first drove to New Ulm, where the stopped at a house and smoked methamphetamine. At that point she was feeling "creeped out" by the man she was riding with, so she only smoked a small amount of the drug so he wouldn't take advantage of her, she told police.
After leaving New Ulm, the man, later identified by investigators as Jason Scott Feller, drove the woman to a residence on Winona Street in Mankato. She said they were the only two people in the apartment when they laid down on a mattress to look at a book of tattoos.
The woman said she eventually pretended to fall asleep until she heard snores from Feller. At that point she said she felt safe enough to also go to sleep. She reported she woke up the next morning when Feller started raping her, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in Blue Earth County District Court.
She got up from the mattress, locked herself in the bathroom and called a mutual friend for help. She eventually went to the friend's residence and stayed there until she could get a ride. Her father brought her back to Mankato to report the alleged assault.
Feller has been charged with first-degree and third-degree criminal sexual conduct as well as felony drug possession.
