Jason Femrite, Dain Fisher and Adam Steinke believe the rivers in the area are underused and unappreciated. They aim to change that.
They opened Bent River Outfitters in June, renting kayaks and canoes to people looking for fun on the rivers flowing through the area.
After the devastating river flooding in the Mankato area in 1965, residents were relieved when the Army Corps of Engineers agreed to erect floodwalls to protect against the damaging and dangerous waters. Once the river was walled off, though, it seemed that the “out of sight, out of mind” cliché kicked in.
