---- — NICOLLET — A rural Nicollet man had to be extracted from a construction hydraulic extension lift that his family was using to pick apples at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Larry Bruegger and his family were picking apples with the lift on a hillside on his property when the unit became top heavy and tipped on its side, ejecting three family members and trapping Bruegger, according to the Nicollet County Sheriff's Office.

Rescue officials found Bruegger pinned by his left leg in the cab of the lift. Cara Meyer of New Ulm was laying nearby with shoulder injuries.

Nicollet Fire officials freed Bruegger with the Jaws of Life. He and Cara Meyer were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato where their injuries were treated.

Two others also were in the lift basket when it crashed: Cara Meyer's husband, Grant Meyer of New Ulm, and a 4-year-old nephew of the Meyers. Neither were taken to the hospital.

Nicollet County deputies, Gold Cross Ambulance and Affordable Towing assisted at the scene.
