SCC student takes gold at SkillsUSA event

---- — NORTH MANKATO — A South Central College student from Madelia took a gold medallion at the SkillsUSA National Conference.

Cassandra Dlugiewicz won the award for Pin Design, in which students present their state-winning pin and artwork, describe its unique qualities and explain how their design represents their state and why another SkillsUSA member would want to wear it.

Dlugiewicz graduated last spring with an associate’s in graphic communications.

About 6,000 students from across the country competed in Kansas City, Mo., for the 2013 SkillsUSA Championships, held in late June. All state-level gold medalists in their respective events participated in 98 different trade, technical and leadership events.

SCC was represented by six students in four events: Pin Design, Automated Manufacturing Technology, Prepared Speech and Job Skills Demonstration Open.

The winners of the SkillsUSA National Championships recently were announced at the National Skills and Leadership Conference Awards Ceremony.

The following SCC students also placed at the national championships: Ashley Enter, Prepared Speech (fourth place); Matthew Rorvig, Dustin Eggum and Philip Ochs, Automated Manufacturing Technology (fourth place).

SkillsUSA is a leadership organization for students in trade, industrial, technical or health training programs.
