---- — ST. PETER — Gustavus Adolphus College moved up nine spots to No. 76 in this year’s list of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges put out by U.S. News & World Report.

The rankings were released today. The news comes recently after Washington Monthly listed Gustavus as the 56th best liberal arts college in the nation and No. 18 on its “Best Bang for the Buck” list.

The U.S. News rankings are based on several key measures of quality including graduation and retention rates (22.5 percent); assessment by peers and counselors (22.5 percent); faculty resources (20 percent), student selectivity (12.5 percent); financial resources (10 percent); graduation rate performance (7.5 percent); and alumni giving (5 percent).

A total of 240 liberal arts colleges are included in this year’s list. The top 182 schools are ranked one through 182, while another 58 schools are listed alphabetically under the label “Second Tier” schools.

In a statement, President Jack Ohle said: “These rankings are good news, but regardless of where we are ranked on these particular lists from year to year, Gustavus has always been and will continue to be committed to providing students with an exceptional undergraduate, liberal arts college experience in a residential setting.”
