Arlington art teacher wins state award

---- — ARLINGTON — Amanda Feterl, elementary art teacher at Sibley East Publics Schools in Arlington, was recognized as the Co-Elementary Art Teacher of the Year in the state of Minnesota for 2013-2014 at the annual Art Educators of Minnesota fall conference recently.

Feterl has taught at Sibley East since 2006. She was named the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year for the Sibley East school district, and in May was honored as a top 10 finalist for the Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

A news release on the award states: “Feterl’s professional contributions have helped to raise awareness for the arts and provide her rural students with engaging, art centered opportunities.”

Feterl is the chairperson of Member Services on the Art Educators of Minnesota board, the district wellness coordinator, a Technology Committee volunteer, chairperson of the social committee, and eighth-grade volleyball coach.

She is now eligible to receive a Regional Elementary Art Educators award at the National Art Educators Association annual conference to be held March 29-31, 2014, in San Diego.
