Early morning crash near St. Thomas injures two

Critically injured man extricated from vehicle

LE SUEUR — A Faribault man was critically injured and a Le Center man suffered neck and back injuries when the vehicles they were driving collided Monday morning in Le Sueur County near the village of St. Thomas.

LeSueur County deputies said Michael Hounder, 48, of Le Center was driving a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Apache about 5:55 a.m. and was at the intersection of Le Sueur County Road 11 and Le Sueur County Road 28 when the vehicle collided with a westbound 2000 Ford Focus driven by Lance Olson, 41, of Faribault. The momentum of the crash took both vehicles into the northeast ditch near the intersection.

Olson had to be extracted from his vehicle. Monday afternoon, he was in critical condition at North Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated for internal injuries.

Hounder was treated for neck and back injuries at Minnesota Valley Hospital in Le Sueur and later released.

The accident is under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
