MANKATO — After receiving her second heart transplant, Alyssa Sandeen will be among the women competing for the title of Miss Mankato Saturday night.
The new Miss Mankato will be crowned during 7 p.m. ceremonies at Fitzgerald Middle School Theater, 110 N. Fifth St.
Along with Sandeen, contestants are Kaitie Borneke, Kirsten Malcolm, Kami Patrin, Gianna Schiller, Lauren Strachan, Ashlie Tisland and Andi Zimmerman.
During the Miss Mankato Scholarship Pageant — a preliminary to the Miss America pageant — contestants will be judged in the categories of interview, lifestyle and fitness, talent and evening gown.
The pageant's five celebrity judges include Jermaine Brown, a former Minnesota State University Maverick basketball standout and former Harlem Globetrotter. Shelby Tweten, an "American Idol" finalist, will perform the national anthem.
Miss Mankato 2013 Gabrielle Chavers and Miss Minnesota 2013 Rebecca Yeh will place the crown on Miss Mankato 2014.
