HANSKA — A Lafayette teen escaped serious injury after his car went through thin ice on Lake Hanska Friday.

The boy, who was not identified by authorities, drove onto the lake from the landing known as Geiger Point, a Brown County Sheriff¹s Department news release said. He drove the car east into an area that was marked with signs warning of thin ice due to an aeration system.

The boy was able to walk to a nearby fish house and ask for help. People in the fish house provided first aid and called 911 to report the incident at about 11:40 p.m. The boy was taken by ambulance to the New Ulm Medical Center, where he was examined before being released, the report said.
