“Time to Soar,” a dance concert at Gustavus, will be held this weekend.

“Time to Soar” will showcase the Gustavus Dance Company and will feature choreography by Danial Shapiro and Joanie Smith of the Shapiro and Smith Dance Company in the Twin Cities.

Set on the Gustavus dancers by Laura Selle Virtucio, a signature piece by Shapiro and Smith, called “To Have and to Hold,” will feature three males, three females and three benches. The dancers move from “bench to bench, person to person, embodying in the importance of every movement and displaying the vicissitudes of human connection,” according to a press release by the department.

Other pieces will include “Divergence,” a modern piece choreographed by adjunct professor Jeffrey Peterson; “Music for a While,” by Gustavus professor Melissa Rolnick, an assortment of solos and a duet with two group sections; and work by selected outstanding student choreographers.
