Bail jumper continues to evade arrest

Cody Maznio

MANKATO — A fugitive from Cottonwood County has been evading arrest since October by hiding in hotels and with friends all over southern Minnesota, including Mankato and surrounding communities.

Bounty hunters from the Twin Cities have been attempting to track down Cody Terrance Maznio, 22, of Windom since he jumped bail in October. He was arrested in August for allegedly having sex with 15-year-old girl from Iowa.

Maznio also has prior drug convictions and was required to do random drug testing when he posted a $30,000 bond for his release in September. He was told to provide a urine sample for drug testing on October 20. When he was at the probation office, he said he was unable to provide a sample. He waited around, drank some water then asked if he could go outside to smoke a cigarette and tell the person who gave him a ride it would be a while before they could leave.

The probation officer reported Maznio was still outside when a deputy walked into the building. The next deputy to walk in said he was gone, however. A warrant was issued for Maznio's arrest on Oct. 22.

Since then he has been seen in Mankato, St. Clair, St. James, Windom, Worthington, Jackson, Owatonna and Rochester, which is his hometown. He was able to slip away from both St. James police officers and bounty hunters when he was spotted there. Mazino has either friends, relatives or both in all those cities.

"Talking with some of his friends, he's here and there and everywhere, basically," said James Jorgensen, Cottonwood County chief deputy. "We definitely are looking for him."

Maznio is an experienced carpenter, so he could be working for contractors doing drywall, roofing, framing or remodeling. He also has experience working at hog farms and with horses. He's also known to drive a gray 2004 Cadillac Deville.

Jorgensen said Maznio's friends and family should not be helping him because he has a warrant for his arrest. Warrant information is available to law enforcement throughout the state, so if anyone sees Maznio that person should call 911 so he can be arrested and returned to Cottonwood County.
