Harold Freitag

AMBOY — Harold Freitag, 97, of Nicollet died Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Funeral service will be 2 pm. Thursday, December 19 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Ron Siemers officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery in rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.   Harold is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bob Runke of Nicollet; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sharon Freitag of Nicollet; grandchildren, Justin Runke, Shannon Runke, Teresa Freitag; sister-in-law, Leona Freitag of Gaylord; brother-in-law, Dennis Nourie of Mankato; and by several nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Freitag on February 19, 2010; a stillborn son; brother, Walter Freitag; and by a sister, Louise Gilbertson.

  Harold Adolph Henry Freitag was born on July 14, 1916 at the family farm in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County to Ludwig and Louise (Hermel) Freitag. He attended country school in Nicollet Township. On April 23, 1940, Harold was united in marriage to Margaret Nourie in Nicollet.  After marriage, they farmed the Freitag family farm in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.  Harold lived on the family farm until December 1, 2011, when he became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Harold enjoyed fishing, playing cards, listening to old time music, and playing concertina. His greatest passion was raising cattle and enjoying life on the farm. Harold was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and the Ayrshire Breeders Association.
