Mae Louise (Jaax) Recktenwald

— July 15,1922 - April 24, 2013

On April 24, 2013, Mae Louise (Jaax) Recktenwald passed away peacefully in her home in Walnut Creek, California, at the age of 90.  Mae enjoyed the celebration of her life with friends and family at her 90th birthday party in July of 2012.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mae Louise graduated from Mankato High School in 1940. She attended the University of Minnesota where she belonged to the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and met her husband, Ralph whom she married in 1943. Mae and Ralph also resided in Illinois and Utah before settling in the Bay Area of California.  They enjoyed a variety of clubs, activities and golf for over 40 years.  Mae and Ralph loved traveling. Besides return visits to Minnesota, they enjoyed numerous trips and cruises including destinations of Japan, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, St Lawrence waterways and Hawaii.

For 30 years, Mae performed administrative work for the Contra Costa County Office of Emergency Services. She lived an active and dedicated life of volunteer service in the John Muir Medical Clinic, the Campfire Girls Organization and in her Church.

Mae is survived by three daughters: Sue Wallace, Sandi Tieslau and Linda Recktenwald as well as her grandchildren: Bryan Tieslau, Scott Wallace (Barbara), Brittany Tieslau Norwood (Rodney) and by her extended family of Don Wallace (Claudia) and Marlee Rippee.  She is also survived by nephews: Waldo Jaax and Tom Jaax (Minnesota residents) and their families.  Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph, as well as by her granddaughter, Bridget Tieslau.  Also preceded in death by her brother, Waldo R. Jaax, her nephew, Richard Jaax, and by her parents, Waldo L. and Mabel Jaax, who were all Minnesota residents.

In her life, Mae shared her mother's favorite prayer, "Let me walk my life in Love today, that I may walk with the Angels tomorrow" ...  She left a legacy of love that was returned by all who knew her and is most certainly walking with Angels.
