Harley "Big H" Hulke

— Harley "Big H" Hulke, 82, of Courtland died Thursday, February 07, 2013, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 10, at the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland with Pastor Melvin Schwark officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery, rural Courtland.  Because of space limitations at the church if you feel you do not want to attend the service the family would like to invite you to a reception being held at the Courtland Recreational Center after the committal at the cemetery, at  approximately 3:15 p.m.  Visitation will be Saturday from 3 - 8 p.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, and on Sunday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.  To sign the guest book or to leave an online condolence to the family go to www.mvfh.org.  

  Harley is survived by his wife, Sylvia, a resident at Orchard Hills in New Ulm, daughters, Vicky (Neal) Gleason of Courtland, Wendy (Chad) Ellwein of Watertown, Wisconsin, Tracy (Bill) Stuewe of St. Peter; sons, Ricky (Mary) Hulke and Randy (Deb) Hulke all of Nicollet, Perry (Joan) Hulke and Corey (Kelly) Hulke all of Courtland; twenty six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Mae (Ron) Kollmann of Courtland; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Orlyn Martens of New Ulm, and Oliver and Pearl Martens of Nicollet, and special friend "Brother Epke", Elmer of Courtland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marilyn Martens in 1997 and a brother in infancy.

  Harley Elton Hulke, the son of Alfred and Luella (Kohn) Hulke was born on September 17, 1930, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County.  He attended the Immanuel Lutheran School in rural Courtland.  On September 22, 1950, Harley was united in marriage to Sylvia Poehler at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland.  Harley lived his entire life farming in Courtland Township and remained a part of the farming operation up until his entrance into the nursing home in September of 2012.  "The Big H" loved to bowl, bowling on the farmers league for over forty years and was secretary of the league for most of those years.  He also loved to drive his tractors and his gator, and loved playing cards in Courtland and Cambria.  Harley was a member of the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.  He had also served on the AMPI Board, the MVL Board, the Courtland Rec Center Board, and the Courtland Township Board for thirty years.  Memorials are preferred by the family to be designated to the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church.  www.mvfh.org
