James "Jim" Elg

— James "Jim" Elg of Mankato passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013, while enjoying the winter with his wife and friends in Mesa, Arizona. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held following the Memorial at Chopp's (formerly Chopper's) in Mankato.

  James Burton Elg was born on October 24, 1936, in Comfrey, Minnesota to Burton and Emeline Elg. He was a lineman for and retired from BENCO Electric. He volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army and MRCI Thrift Store. Jim relished life!  He enjoyed volunteering, travelling, camping at Old Wagon Campground near Paynesville, spending time with family and friends, telling stories, and giving advice.

  Jim is survived by his wife Shirley, brother Larry (Jeanne) Elg, sisters-in-law Lorene Elg, Bev Robinson and Pam (John) Maltby, children Laurie Forsythe, Jay (Sue) Zempel, Carrie (Kent) Heise, Tammy (Ken) Miller, Tricia Doerr, Tom (Amanda) Doerr, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gerry, wife Janifer, and brother-in-law Greg Robinson.
