Walter Lincoln Whipps

—   Walter Lincoln Whipps, age 89, of Le Center, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mayo Health Systems in Mankato. Visitation will be held at the Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., and one hour before service  Tuesday at the church. Funeral service will be at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Montgomery on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Le Center.

  Watler was born on February 12, 1923 to Louis and Lora (Bornholdt) Whipps in Lexington Township. He attended country school. Served in the U.S. Army 1942-1946 during WWII.

  Walter married Vivian Antonsen (Wiethoff) on May 20, 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Montgomery. He farmed, worked at the local elevator, road construction, Selly Construction and started Walts Backhoe service in 1980 until his retirement in 1997.

  He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Montgomery, American Legion Post 108 and VFW 1803 in Le Center and was on Greenwood Union Cemetery board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Minnesota Twins, cards and going to coffee and shaking dice.

  Walter is survived by his daughters Kathleen (Wiethoff) (Charles) Erkel, Linda (Arnold) Kolander, son David (Mary Kay) Whipps, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren

  He is preceded in death by his wife Vivian in 1998 and his parents.

  Military honors are provided by the Le Center area Honor Guard.

  Lunch will be at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Le Center following burial.
