Mark Thomas Sheldon

—  Mark Thomas Sheldon, age 59, of North Mankato, passed away December 1, 2012.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Private Family Burial with Military Honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at NORTHVIEW-North Mankato Mortuary.   Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family to forward on to an organization of their choice.

Mark was born June 26, 1953, to Bruce and Patricia (Killeen) Sheldon in St. Cloud.  He graduated from Mankato High School in 1971 and enlisted in the United States Army.  Distinguishing himself as a code-breaker, Mark served in the Army until 1974, and spent two years stationed in Germany.  Mark attended Mankato State College while in the Reserves until 1977.  On April 30, 1977, Mark was united in marriage to Karon Kozitza in North Mankato.  They made their home in North Mankato where they were blessed with three wonderful children.  Mark was a carpenter for eight years before becoming an insurance agent. His dedication and talent in the insurance industry culminated in the acquisition of the Madelia Insurance Center, which expanded and prospered due to the respect he had for both his employees and clients.  Marks passions were carpentry, hunting and the outdoors.  He was a devoted husband, loving father, talented carpenter and helpful, giving friend. Mark loved his wife and children and was everyones rock.  He devoted his life to his family and was a spectacular example for his children.  Mark enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.  He will be deeply missed.

Mark is survived by his wife, Karon of North Mankato; three children: Tina (Steve) Shierts of Farmington, Paul Sheldon of Madelia and Jacob (Jobeth) Sheldon of North Mankato; one grandson, Jared Shierts; his father, Bruce Sheldon of North Mankato; six siblings: Mike (Mary) Sheldon, Tim (Susan) Sheldon, Cindy (Dale) VanThuyne, Kevin (Margaret) Sheldon, Patrice (Bruce) MacGibbon and Michele (Chad) Jacobson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
