Anne Freeman Russell

—  Anne Freeman Russell, age 78, of Le Sueur passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at the Le Sueur United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur and one hour prior to the service time Friday at the church.

Anne was born on January 24, 1936, in Plainfield, NJ, to James Russell and Florence (Lott) Freeman and grew up in Westfield, NJ.  She graduated from Stevens College in MO in 1956. On June 5, 1957, Anne married William (Bill) Russell in Columbia, MO.  They lived in Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Arkansas, and then moved to Le Sueur in December of 1974.

Lovingly known in her family as Grandma Anne, she thrived on spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid quilter and seamstress who made many keepsake quilts for her family, as well as hundreds of darling baby bibs for all, each sewn with exact precision. She found joy in gardening, and stayed active by working at Traverse de Sioux Garden Center in St. Peter. She loved to travel. Growing up in New Jersey gave her a love for the Jersey Shore, which she visited many times throughout her life, and within the past year she made trips to France and Florida. She was a loyal Twins fan, win or lose, listening to most of their games on the radio while she sewed. She was known within the family for several recipes that no one has been able to duplicate, especially her signature chocolate chip cookies and the "good beans." She loved her cat, Honey, and the birds that she fed outside her kitchen window.

She is survived by her daughters Betty Anne (Mark) Bertrang of Onalaska, WI, Judy Lynne (John) Sunderman of Le Sueur, Margaret Jane (Pat) Kahnke of St. Paul; grandchildren Brianne, Kevin, Tyler (Emily), Abby (Sam), Samuel, Nina, and Naomi; great grandchildren William and Paul; sisters Florence (Sandy) Rom of NJ, and Margaret (Peg) Dunlap of NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.
