—   Cora L. (Juliar) Schultz Sjostrom, age 94, of St. Peter, MN, passed away peacefully with loved

ones by her side on March 31st, 2014 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.  A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at 11:00 am at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Norseland, MN.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am before services at the church.

Cora was born August 25th, 1919 to Aaron and Rose (Hagemeister) Juliar in Decoria Township, Mankato, MN.  She graduated in 1935 from St. Clair High School at the age of 15.  In her younger years, Cora worked as a housekeeper for families in Minneapolis and Mankato.

Cora married Walter A. Schultz on February 21st, 1941.  In their early years of marriage, they loved to go dancing at the Kato Ballroom. Cora and Walter owned the (Turn at the Churn) dairy farm in rural Nicollet for 33 years until his passing in 1974.  They were blessed with 3 children: Douglas, Suzanne, and Melody.  Foster daughter, Betty Hughes, also joined their family.

On August 28th, 1976, Cora married Herbert Sjostrom.  During their 22 wonderful years together, they enjoyed traveling to Scandinavia, Canada, Arizona, Washington, and New York.  After living on the Sjostrom farm, they later moved to St. Peter.  Cora moved to Realife when the tornado destroyed her apartment in 1998 and in 2011 she moved to Pheasants Ridge Assisted Living.

Cora was an active member of Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Ladies Aid.  She served on the Nicollet County Allied Service Board for 9 years.  In her retirement, she volunteered at Third Street Seconds Thrift Shop in St. Peter.

Cora was happiest when she was cooking and entertaining for family and friends.  She loved flowers and spent many summer hours tending to her large gardens.  She also loved to read, shop, and collect antiques.  As a devoted mother and grandmother, she always put family first.

She is survived by children: Douglas (Judy) Schultz of Nicollet; Suzanne Herberg and special friend Rodney Decko of Le Sueur; Melody (Robert) Lundberg of Bakersfield, CA; foster daughter Betty (Ron) Hughes Alt of Sleepy Eye; Lowell (Adrianne) Sjostrom of Winthrop; Kay (Glen) Schulte of Cary, IL; Karen (Richard) Shear of Rosemount; sisters-in-law June Juliar of Mankato, Joan Juliar of Niceville, FL, and Dorothy Schultz of St. Peter.   The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Pheasants Ridge Assisted Living for the excellent and loving care Cora received.   Memorials may be sent to Scandian Grove Lutheran Church or charity of your choice.
