Jerome "Red" Sheehan, age 82, of Mankato, died on Friday, April 18, 2014 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Breza and Fr. Robert Schneider officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Schola Foundation.
Jerome "Red" was born on February 16, 1932 in Mankato to Charles and Agnes (Thomas) Sheehan. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1951 where he received All-State honors as a guard on the football team. Red served in the United States Army National Guard from 1951-1953. In 1952, Red was united in marriage to Peggy Klages at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He attended Mankato State University. Red was a mechanical contractor and founded Mankato Plumbing and Heating in 1963. He successfully operated the business until 2004. Red was a firm believer in Loyola and Catholic education and was a supporter of Loyola fundraisers. He was a past president of the Builders Exchange. Red was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at his "ranch" and playing cards. Most of all, Red was a family man who loved time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Red is survived by his wife, Peggy of Mankato; two daughters, Patricia Sheehan and her partner, Susan Olive of North Oaks and Pamela Ryan (Michael) of Mendota Heights; three granddaughters, Brigid Ryan-Ling (Jeremy) of St. Paul and their children, Caleb, Emmett, Mairi, and Francis, Courtney Ryan Yurczyk (Michael) of Chicago, and Megan Ryan-Kuefler (Andrew) of St. Paul and their son, Harrison; many loving nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters.
