Loretta Manoski, 95, formerly of Huntington, IN, (Mankato, MN) passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 19, at her Shorehaven assisted living residence, Oconomowoc, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul (Murf), her parents Leo and Mary Ulmen, sister Florence and brother-in-law Lyle Long. She is survived by sister Joan (Tom) King, 14 nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends.
Loretta's varied career included travel agent (on one trip to Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, in 1949 she was walked out to the plane on the tarmac behind a brass band, with a group following her. She turned around and everyone had stopped and was laughing. They were practicing for an impending visit by the President of India and she was playing that part.), receptionist at Mankato St. Joseph and Ford Hospital in Detroit, newspaper work (Courier in Winona, MN, and Our Sunday Visitor in-house publication. She loved to travel, read, golf, listen to music and relax with a rob roy or gin and tonic. Being single for 2/3 of her life, she was a take-charge person. Her dry sense of humor was matched by her husband, who often said, "You are right and I am wrong, as you usually are." As she told a friend who died many years ago, "You are going west before I am."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntington followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to St. Mary's Church in Huntington or the Catholic Relief Fund.
