Virginia Joan Van Rossum




   Virginia Joan Van Rossum, age 83, of Mapleton died March 22, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Mapleton. Visitation will be 4-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:45 on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church as well as one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home in Mapleton is assisting with arrangements.

  Virginia Joan was born May 25, 1929, to John and Amelia (Stencil) Bach. She grew up on the family farm in Minnesota Lake and attended school and graduated from Good Counsel in Mankato.

  On May 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Maurice Van Rossum. This union was blessed with seven children: Kathy, Denny, Tom, Shellie, Michael, Kevin, and Patrick.

  She was an active member at St. Teresa's Catholic Church and was a member of the Church's women's organization. Joan was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the nursing home board. She volunteered much of her time at the nursing home and in the community, delivering meals on wheels. She was an avid fan for Minnesota sports, especially basketball. Joan loved to collect bears and enjoyed riding bike. She took great pride in her yard and beautiful gardens, where most of her time was spent. Her flowers were her pride and joy.  

 Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kathy (Roberto) Moran of San Antonio, TX, Denny (Linda) Van Rossum of Mankato, MN, Tom (Geralyn) Van Rossum of Mapleton, MN, Shellie (Dennis) Lawton of Summerfield, FL, Michael (Heidi) Van Rossum of Minneapolis, MN, Kevin (Cari) Van Rossum of Minneapolis, MN, and Patrick (Maria) Van Rossum of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Bobby (April) Moran, Becky (Ross) Bahl, Tami Lang, Mandy (Jay) Byram, Joey (J.D.) Roberts, Maisie Van Rossum, Katie and Joey Van Rossum, Nicolas Marquez, Adam Van Rossum, Cristina Gallegos, Noah Van Rossum, and Sam Van Rossum; great-grandchildren: Jaden Bahl, Colton Lang, Javen, Morgan and Jakobi Byram, and Ryleigh Roberts; brother, Roman Bach; sister-in-law, Daisy Bach; other extended family and many friends.

  Joan was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers and sisters.
