Arlene Van Avery


—   Arlene (Hoey) Van Avery, 83, longtime resident of Le Sueur, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, April 12, 2013 at the Good Samaritan-Grandview Care Center in St Peter, Minnesota after a long struggle with dementia.

  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center Minnesota. Viewing will precede the Mass from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Le Center, Minnesota. Lunch will be served at St Mary's following the graveside service.

  Arlene was born May 8, 1929 in Eagle Lake, Minnesota to Arthur & Verna (Fischer) Wilmes the second of 12 children. She worked for Green Giant and then Pillsbury for 22 years before retiring in 1991. When Green Giant was purchased by Pillsbury, Arlene rode a shuttle bus from Le Sueur to Minneapolis and back every day without ever missing a day of work.  Following her retirement, Arlene pursued her passion for baking and perennial gardening. She also loved to travel, and did volunteer work for Hospice and Catholic Charities.

  Arlene was preceded in death by: husbands Francis J. Hoey, and Charles Van Avery; sisters Adelaide and JoAnn; and brother Leon.

  She is survived by children: Barbara (William) Pivec, Webster, Minnesota;  Evelyn (Terry) Michaelson, Duluth, Minnesota;  Mary (Carl) Schmuland, Lino Lakes, Minnesota;  Mike Hoey, Shoreview, Minnesota;  Pat (Bonnie) Hoey, LeCenter, Minnesota;  and Anne (Steve) Carlson, Missoula, Montana.

  Siblings: David (Darlene) Wilmes, Stanley (Delores) Wilmes, Marilyn (LeRoy) Slama, Allan (Bonnie) Wilmes, Art (Sharon) Wilmes, Jeanne Doheny, La Vern (Sue) Wilmes, and Michael (Kathy) Wilmes

  Grandchildren: Lisa Smith, Steve Pivec, Heather (Joel) Jacobson, Ryan Michaelson, Kristen (Derrick) Rizzo,   Justin (Kim) Hoey, Aaron Hoey, Brandon Hoey, Sarah Carlson and Alex Carlson

  Great grandchildren: Zachary Smith, Cassandra Smith, Allyson Smith, Gianna Rizzo, Elise Hoey, and Sophia Hoey.
