Longtime North Mankato resident, Patricia "Pat" Benson, 82, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Oak Terrace in North Mankato. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church in North Mankato, the Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church.
Pat was born April 21, 1930 in St. Peter, MN to Edmund L. and Cecelia (Hahn) McGrath. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1948. She was the Deputy Clerk and then Clerk-Treasurer for the City of North Mankato from 1969 to 1980. After leaving the city she become a Realtor with George Smith Better Homes & Gardens. Following a successful battle with Hodgkin's Disease, Pat returned to real estate in the office at Layman Todd. Pat was an active member of Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church as Sunday School teacher, youth leader, committee and Circle member, and even as church custodian. In retirement Pat continued to work part-time gaining friends along the way. She enjoyed keeping in touch with and spending time with her friends. Monthly lunches with the "kids" she went to high school with was a favorite past-time. Pat's passion was gardening, but her love was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Don (Carol) Benson of Ft. Wayne, IN, Leiann (Loren) Schulz of Farmington, MN, Jody Kopischke of North Mankato, MN; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; Aunt Mabel Myers of St. Peter, Cousin Roger Engstrom of Deltsville, MD, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynn Louise; her mother, Cecelia Dillon; brother, Robert McGrath.
