John A. Anderson

— John A. Anderson, age 85 of Waseca, died on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Lakeshore Inn in Waseca.

Born in Milwaukee, WI on January 22, 1928, John was the son of John and Anna (Frisch) Anderson.  He grew up in Grove Lake and attended school in Grove Lake and Glenwood before graduating from high school in Minneapolis.  John enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17, and served for thirteen years in the Marines and Marine Reserves. During his military commitment John fought on the front lines during the Korean War.  It was also during that time that he was married to Doris Hepburn at Prairie Farm, WI on August 30, 1952. John attended the Brown Institute in Minneapolis to earn a degree in accounting, which he put to use following his military discharge.  He worked as an accountant for Land-O-Lakes Creameries in various communities moving to Waseca in 1968 and continuing with Land-O-Lakes until 1975.  He later worked for Dean's Specialty in Waseca until he and a partner bought the business and renamed it J&R Specialty.  He continued his career there until his retirement.  John enjoyed camping and fishing, bowling, and flower and vegetable gardening (he was widely known for his tomatoes).  He was a member of the Waseca VFW, the VFW Honor Guard and the Mankato branch of the Marine Corps League.  He was also a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as a confirmation teacher as well as many other positions through the years.

John is survived by his wife, Doris of Waseca; two children, Mark (Joni) Anderson of Council Bluffs, IA, and Karen (Mark) Byron of Waseca; five grandchildren, Meghan (Mikel) Finch, Meredith (A.J.) Menden, Erica (Austin) Brockmeier, Carrie (Jett Hitt) Byron, and Andrew Byron; and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. John Omans officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
