Richard J. Meurer

— Richard J. Meurer, 88, of Nicollet died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living Center in St. Peter. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet with Father Todd Peterson celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of Mass at the church on Monday.   Richard is survived by his wife, Rose Meurer of Nicollet; daughters, Peggy (Chuck) Gappa of Nicollet, Jody (Kevin) Woller of Courtland, Julie Zimmerman and special friend Wayne Heinze both of Sauk Centre; sons, Wayne (Shirley) Meurer of Nicollet, Gary (Ginger) Meurer of Waseca; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine sisters.

  Richard Joseph Meurer was born April 27, 1926 to Joseph and Anna Meurer in Granby Township, Nicollet County. Richard attended country school in Granby Township.  He was united in marriage to Rose Stevensen on September 18, 1947 at Swan Lake Catholic Church. After marriage, they farmed in Granby Township, Nicollet County until retirement. Richard continued to live on the farm and help his son with the farming operation. In April 2009, Richard and Rose moved to a home in Nicollet.  Six months ago, he moved to Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living where he was very well cared for and they became a second family to him. Farming was Richard's life but in his spare time he enjoyed going to Jackpot with Rose, playing cards, and shaking dice at Rapid Rick's in Nicollet. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch the Minnesota Twins. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren's many events.

  He was a charter and life member of the Nicollet Lions Club. He was active in the monthly pork chop frys put on by the Lions and held at the Nicollet Conservation Club in Nicollet.  He was also a member St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet, The Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. www.mvfh.org.
