Eugene "Gene" H. Sheppard


... —   A Celebration of Life Service for Eugene "Gene" H. Sheppard, 88, of  rural Trimont will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2014 at Waverly Lutheran Church in rural Trimont, Minnesota with Pastor Anthony Christoffels officiating. Burial will be in the  Church  Cemetery.      

 Gene was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday evening, February 19, 2014 at the Trimont Health Care Center  in Trimont, Minnesota.  Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Monday.  Messages of Sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com

 Eugene Harrison Sheppard was born in Waverly Township, Martin County, Minnesota on May 3, 1925, to Percy and Sarah (Ask) Sheppard.  He was baptized and later confirmed in 1939 both at Waverly Lutheran Church. Gene attended District #3 in Waverly Township and then attended District #62 in Galena Township until attended Triumph-Monterey High School graduating with the class of 1943. In his earlier years, Gene enjoyed horse back riding. On October 15, 1950 he was united in marriage to Joyce Johnson at Waverly Lutheran Church, rural Trimont, Minnesota.  After their marriage they farmed in Waverly and  Galena Townships and Gene drove school bus for Kramer Bus Service and later for Martin County West for over thirty years. Joyce died on March 26, 1998.  He continued living on the farm until moving into Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn. He was a life long member of Waverly Lutheran Church where he held various church offices, was a deacon, past president, Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir, served on the church council and was the official bell ringer for many years.  Along with his wife, Joyce, they were Lutheran League sponsors.  Gene served on the Galena Township Board for seventeen years and was in several plays in Trimont and in the Fairmont Opera House and was master of ceremonies for several Trimont events.  He enjoyed bowling where he bowled in leagues in St. James, Truman and Fairmont.  Gene was an avid reader  and he enjoyed  playing  his baritone in the Trimont Centennial Band.  

 He is survived by his three children, son, David (Jolene) Sheppard of Mankato, Minnesota, daughter, Susan (Todd) Rathman of rural Trimont, Minnesota and daughter, Lynette (Kevin) Shaw of rural Welcome, Minnesota; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Kay (Dick) Pope of rural Trimont; brothers-in-law, Gerald (Jane) Johnson of Mankato, Arlen (Ruth) Johnson of Waite Park, Minnesota, Pastor Earl (Linda) Johnson of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Alice Johnson Olson of Bloomington and Barbara Johnson Hegg  of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends

 Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Sarah Sheppard, father and mother-in-law, Arne and Ragnal Johnson, wife, Joyce Sheppard; daughter, Jennifer Sheppard; brothers-in-law, Ronald (Marlene) Johnson, Dennis Hegg and Charles Olson and other relatives.
