Signe Katherine Olson

—   Signe Katherine Olson, age 96, entered her heavenly home on Monday, December 23, 2013.  She had most recently resided at Pathstone Way.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2013 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Petersen officiating.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the service on Friday.  Burial will be in Scarville Synod Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville, IA. Memorials may be given to the Harry & Signe Olson Scholarship Fund - Bethany Lutheran College, Mt. Olive Church and School, or Scarville Synod Lutheran Church and School. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Signe Katherine was born on May 29, 1917 to Nels and Aase (Stanghelle) Faugstad on a farm in Winnebago County, Iowa.  She was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 24, 1932 at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church.  She attended school in country school houses through third grade and finished her elementary education in the Scarville Christian Day School.  She remained a member of that church until 1991, when she moved to Mankato and became a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.  Throughout her life she was active in her church, always seeking ways to serve.  On October 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harry Severt Olson.  Together they farmed near Scarville until Harry's death in 1973; after which she continued to manage the farm.  Her life revolved around her family and her faith, and she filled her leisure time with many artistic activities, cooking, and gardening.

Signe is survived by her daughter, Lois (Steven) Jaeger of Mankato; her son, Steven Olson of La Crescent, MN; two grandchildren, Anika (Bryan) Rychner of Farmington and Jacob (Jamie) Jaeger of Mankato; two great-grandchildren, Emmett and Bergen Signe Rychner; brother, Norman (Adela) Faugstad of Emmons, MN; sisters-in-law, Esther Faugstad of Emmons, MN and Eva Hausmann of Darion, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Signe was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Nels D. (Camilla), Arnold, and Conrad Faugstad; sister-in-law, Katherine (Nils) Oesleby; and brother-in-law, Wilfred Hausmann.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pathstone for their outstanding care for Signe during her stays at Pathstone Bridge and for the past two years at Pathstone Way as well as the staff of MCHS-Hospice.
