Charles A. Lander, age 82 of Mapleton, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Mapleton Community Home.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Vickie Hultine officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery in Mapleton. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Thursday and one hour before all at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer Association or Blue Earth/Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS). Olson - Tichenor Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles was born February 12, 1931 to Gunnar and Esther (Andersen) Lander in Pittsburg, PA. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and leaving with the rank of Corporal. He also received two Bronze Stars for his service. Chuck graduated from Penn State University in 1958.
Chuck was united in marriage to Josie Morris Schutte on April 3, 1969 in Gaylord, Minnesota. They made their home in Mapleton where Chuck worked as a hog buyer for Armor and later worked for Stanton Hog Farm in Mapleton. Chuck was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton. He enjoyed auctions, collecting gasoline engines, working on the engines, and caring for all kinds of animals.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Josie of Mapleton; four children, Loretta (Dave) Bach-Gansen of Park Rapids, MN, Roberta Ross and partner, Ed McGee of Wilson, WI, Dale (Pat) Schutte of Darlington, SC, Richard (Nicole) Lander of Mapleton, MN; six grandchildren, Laura Olson, Michael Bach, Amy Bach, Donald Ross, Heidi Ross, and Dustin Schutte; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard and David Lander; two sisters, Carol Fisher and Jean Monaco; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and one brother, George.
