Darwin "Sody" Sodeman


—    Darwin "Sody" Sodeman, age 79, of St. James, died on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.

   Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, November 11, 2013, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating.

   Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.

   Visitation will be Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 2-6pm and one hour before services at the church Monday.

   Darwin Maynard Albert Sodeman, known as Sody, was born November 11,1933 in the South Branch area to parents Henry & Regina (Firchau) Sodeman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch. Sody grew up and attended rural country school in South Branch and attended through 9th grade in St. James before working on the family farm. On September 30, 1961, Sody was united in marriage to JoAnn Fuller in St. James. He held a number of jobs, including driving milk truck, building grain elevators, farming, hauling grain and the job he enjoyed the most, working as a school custodian at St. James Schools.  He retired on October 30, 1998. Sody also looked after the County Fair grounds and 4H buildings for many years.  Most recently he received the 4-H service award in October, 2013. Sody enjoyed sports, watching the Twins & Vikings, golf and softball games. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and family vacations to Alexandria each summer.  Sody loved visiting with family and friends, and spending time with children and grandchildren.

   Sody is survived by his children; Deb Odegard & Mark Deegan of St. James, Amy(Jim) Pluym of St. James, James (Lori) Sodeman of St. James, 7 grandchildren,2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, sister; Darla Groshens of Maple Lake, and brother-in-law; Loren Fuller of St. James. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-great-granddaughter, brother; Darrell, brother-in-law; Jack Groshens and sister-in-law; Judy Fuller.
