Wayne R. Ford

Long time Mankato resident Wayne R. Ford passed away on February 26, 2014 at Monarch Meadows, North Mankato.

 Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Mankato.  Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Algona, IA.  Memorials can be made to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa.

 Wayne was born on June 15, 1923 to Charles Manly and Cassie W. (Thompson) Ford in Central City, Iowa.  He graduated from Central City High School in 1940.  He served in the Army Air Force where he was training to be a pilot when the war ended in 1945.  Upon returning home, he enrolled at Iowa State College.  Wayne played third base for the Iowa State Cyclones, lettering four years.  On September 10, 1949 he married Maxine Moore from Algona, Iowa at the Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Wayne graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a degree in Agricultural Education.

 After graduation, Wayne and Maxine returned to Central City where Wayne taught Vocational Agriculture in the high school until 1954.  At that time, they moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa where Wayne taught Vocational Agriculture until 1957.  He then went to work for Ralston Purina as a district salesman for 16 years.  In 1973 the family moved to Mankato, Minnesota where Wayne served as state sales manager for Farmland Industries until his retirement in June 1988.

 Wayne was active in many organizations in Iowa Falls and Mankato.  He was the first scout in Central City to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in 1939.  He and Maxine were instrumental in organizing special needs programs for Downs Syndrome children in Iowa Falls and continued their involvement with Downs Syndrome programs at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa.  Wayne was active in the Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #12 of Mankato.  He and Maxine loved to travel in their motor home after retirement and visited many sites in the United States.

 Wayne is survived by his two sons, Steven (Annette) Ford of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lance (Judy) Ford of Excelsior, MN; 6 grandchildren and spouses - Trevor (Katie) Ford, Charles Ford, Molly Ford, Jacqueline (Joe) DuFor, Lindsey (Jeff) Jones and Mitchell Ford; his sister, Pauline Ritter of Aitkin, MN; sister-in-law, Persis "Birdie" Ford of Marion, IA; and many nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends.

 Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine on April 4, 2010; daughter, Michelle; brother, Richard Ford.
