Larry "Ralph" P. Forsythe of Mankato passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital Thursday, July 25, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Larry Paul Forsythe was born September 28, 1953, in Mankato, MN, to James and Beatrice Forsythe (Praught). He spent his youth growing up in Vernon Center. Larry attended St. John's University, the University of Minnesota and received his MA from Minnesota State University Mankato in Geography and Urban Planning. He married Laurie Zempel in 1988 and was blessed with three daughters. Larry started as an intern for the City of Mankato in 1978 and eventually became the economic development director and later the planning director. He played a key role in the development of Mankato into a regional shopping center. As quoted in the Mankato Free Press by a person who worked closely with Larry over the years: "He's a class act." After a brief move to Colorado he returned to Mankato in 1996 to work in development for Fisher and Lidstrom Commercial Realtors. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, beating anyone in cribbage and spending time with his daughters and granddaughter.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Kayla, Andrea and Courtney, granddaughter Audry Lewis, mother Beatrice Forsythe, ex-wife Laurie Forsythe, siblings Tom (Nancy) Forsythe, Mary Mountain ,Colleen Forsythe, John (Maureen) Forsythe, Wendy (Don) Rappe, Jeff Forsythe, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James.
A Mass will be held Thursday, August 1 at 3:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 632 S. Broad St. in Mankato. Visitation will be at the church at 2:00 with the Rosary at 2:30. All are welcome to a Celebration of Larry's life to be held following the Mass at Applewood Restaurant and Banquet Center in Mankato from 4:00 - 8:00.
