Ted was born August 7, 1910, in Mankato to Joseph H. and Elizabeth (Weber) Roemer. He grew up in Madison Lake and graduated from All Saints High School. He completed two years at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota and then completed his studies and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1932 with degrees in English literature and journalism. After graduation he worked two years for the Milwaukee Journal as a copy editor and regional sports writer.

Ted was united in marriage to Evelyn Jan Catulla on June 14, 1937, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. He became postmaster of Madison Lake and remained there for 32 years, until 1965. After his retirement from government service, he started a house moving business, owned farm land, and developed land at Roemer's Cove and the Blue Marina. Ted was an author whose work included over 600 short stories and novelettes published in pulp fiction magazines and high school literature books during the 1930s and '40s.
