Margaret M. Burns

— Margaret M. Burns, 98, of Bonita Springs, FL died October 10, 2013. She had been a resident of Bonita Springs for the past 3 years coming from Edina, MN. Margaret was born July 12, 1915 in Adrian, MN a daughter of the late George Henry and Catherine Jane (ne Sweeney) LeGros.

The youngest of 13 children, she attended Winona State College, Winona, MN and completed her degree at St. Augustana in Sioux Fall, SD. Her father immigrated from England and graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music. He instilled a strong belief for advanced training and education for all of his children.

Margaret thrived in a 50 year career encompassing fashion and merchandising; working as a manager, buyer and sales associate. She took time off to raise her family and resumed her career when her youngest daughter was in the 2nd grade.

She believed that whatever style was popular, if it was unflattering; she would advise her customers not to wear it.

She was a forerunner to Women's Lib and fair business rights to women in the workplace. Even though she engaged fully in her career, her family and her grandchildren were always her first priority.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Burns DuFrane and her fiance, Dr. Bill Doebler and Catherine (Kitsy) Burns Thomas and her husband, Bryant R. Thomas; four grandchildren, Michael J. Vincent Thomas, Madeline Catherine Thomas, Robert (Jodi) DuFrane and Dana DuFrane (Steve) Selna; five great grandchildren, Case DuFrane, Claire DuFrane, Catherine Selna, Camille Selna and Patrick Selna and numerous other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vincent L. Burns; son, Timothy Vincent Burns; son-in-law, Ron DuFrane; her twelve siblings, Leo, Ruth, Horatio, Georgia, Angelus, Harold, Cedric, Thomas, Justin, Louis, Maxwell and Lafayette and her nephew, Edwin Becker.

A celebration of her life and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, MN. Arrangements for the Mass are pending.

Arrangements are being held by Shikany's Bonita funeral Home.
