Jean Marie Forland, age 84 of Mapleton, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Mapleton Community Home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church, Friends of the Deep Valley Library, or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Jean Marie Mallin was born March 16, 1929 in Stillwater to Howard and Mildred (Jeans) Mallin. She attended and graduated from Oseola High School in Wisconsin. After completing her nursing education in St Paul, she was employed at Midway Hospital in pediatrics. On February 5, 1951, she enlisted in the United States Army and served as a general duty nurse until she was honorably discharged on February 25, 1952.
While serving in the Army, Jean met Charles Skinner and they were married on October 2, 1951. They had two children, Mark and Nancy. He died on August 15, 1955. Jean was united in marriage to Jerald Forland on July 12, 1958. They had a daughter, Julie. Jean and Jerald and the three children made their home in the Mapleton area. Jerald died in 1988.
Jean was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mapleton, where she had served on church council and was a past president of the women's group. She was also a member of the Mapleton Garden Club, Women's Study Club in Mapleton and Sertoma. Jean enjoyed her involvement with the Blue Earth County Library and working in the Friends of the Deep Valley Libraries used book store. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
Jean is lovingly survived by her three children; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Charles and Jerald; and three siblings, Elaine Coughlin, John (Florence) Mallin, and William Mallin.
