    Howard "Howie" True of Walker, Minnesota died at home on Thursday August 1, 2013.

    He was born in Mankato, Minnesota to Donald and Pauline (Knutson) True. He was one of 8 children: sister Marit (Johnson) and brothers Robert, Stephan, Charles, Lloyd, Lowell and Donald (DD).

    Howie graduated from Mankato High School in 1958. Howie then went to work for Mankato Citizens Telephone Company, and later moved near Whipholt, Minnesota where he owned and operated a fishing resort with his wife, Marlene. Howie then went to work for Johnson Telephone Company from which he retired in 2002. Howie was a long time member of the Eagles Club in Mankato.

    Howie was a gifted athlete. He captained the high school football, basketball and track teams, taking his basketball team to the Minnesota state tournament in 1958. He went on to become a pitcher on local fast pitch softball teams and played for more than 20 years, often leading his teams to playoffs and championships.

    Howie was fun loving, full of mischief, and had many friends. He loved nature and animals and tracked the coming and going of the birds every season. He loved to fish and could be found on the lake whenever the wind was right.

    Howie is survived by 2 daughters, Becki True; Debbie Taylor; 3 stepsons Mike Plakke, Brian Plakke and Donald Plakke; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Marlene, stepdaughter Carol, sister Marit, brothers Donald and Charles, and his parents.

    We will be holding services and celebrating Howies life at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, MN on September 4th at 1 PM.

    Howie beat stage 4 non-Hodgkins Lymphoma 20 years ago. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
