Walter Marvin Rostron, 79, of Mankato died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. He was born on June 2, 1933, in St. Paul to the late Walter and Helen Rostron.
After serving in the United States Army, Walter graduated from the University of Minnesota and subsequently went to New York City to continue his education. There he attended the Manhattan School of Music where he majored in piano performance and music theory before going on to earn a Master of Arts in library science from Columbia University.
He returned to Minnesota in 1965 and served as a librarian at the Minnesota State University, Mankato for 25 years. He had a wide range of interests and enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, carpentry, target shooting, reading, writing, and classical music.
Walter is survived by his wife, Marie, and a daughter, Karen. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Hosanna Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013.
