David E. Radtke

—  David E. Radtke, age 79, of Minnesota Lake, MN, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato, MN.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 10:30 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012, from 4:00-7:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake, MN, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Father Thomas Niehaus will officiate. Interment will be in St John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota Lake, MN, with Military Honors accorded by the Minnesota Lake American Legion and Wells Color Guard.   David was born on December 27, 1932, in Minnesota Lake, MN, to Fred and Bernice (Stenzel) Radtke.  While attending Mankato State University, he met Marilyn Pfeffer and on June 7, 1958, in Mankato, MN, they were united in marriage. To this union three children were born.

 David was a farmer his whole life and was the manager of the Minnesota Lake grain elevator for many years.  He served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of the American Legion.  David was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  David was an avid hunter and trapper--he liked animals and strange pets.  He was also very passionate about the Twins and Vikings.

  David is survived by his 3 children: Scott Radtke of Wells, Tom (LaRae) Radtke of Minnesota Lake, and Kathy Radtke of Minnesota Lake; 4 grandchildren:  Dawn Sonnek, Tonya (Jarvis) Dallman, Tina (Mitch) Olson, David Radtke; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother:  Darrell (Denise) Radtke and a sister Janice Carlson.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, and step-father Herman Gerdts.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Lake American Legion.
