Donald Arthur Matting, 88 years old, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on March 17, 1924. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Force during WW2.
Don taught at the University of Michigan for 2 years before transferring to Minnesota State University, where he taught drawing, painting, and art history for 38 years. In addition he was an accomplished and professional artist exhibiting his work in many competitions as well as in universities and museums. During the bicentennial Don was selected to represent the midwest painters in Paris, France.
He married Dorothy-Jean Small in December 1954. They have two children, Allison born 1955 and Kyle born 1959. Survivors also include granddaughter Angela, grandson Joseph, great-grand-daughters Natalie, Jaiden, Kalia, Kiara, and great-grand-sons Tre' and Tristan.
Service will be held on June 22nd at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 11:00am. There will be a lunch following the service.
