Ray Frederick Boerger

— Ray Frederick Boerger, 92, of Nicollet died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his home in Nicollet. Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday, May 16 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Ron Siemers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Post #510 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Wednesday and from 7:30-11:30 am Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.   Ray is survived by his daughters, Donna (Glen) Wiens of Lake Crystal, Gail Dumas of Waconia; sons, David Boerger of Nicollet, Gerold (Debra) Boerger of Nicollet; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Barchus of Pequot Lakes, Arline Voges of Courtland; brothers-in-law, Ray (Barb) Voges of Bemidji, Willard Arndt of Janesville; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Harriet (Voges) Boerger on June 19, 2009; sister, Jewel (Edgar) Bulow; great granddaughter, Madison Rae Becker; sisters-in law, Viola (Art) Schroeder, Gert (Ewald) Macho, Agnes (Lester) Otto, Edna Arndt; brothers-in-law,  Leonard Voges, George (Irene) Voges, and Harold Voges.

  Ray Frederick Boerger was born October 27, 1920 in Mankato to Henry and Lydia (Kranz) Boerger. He was baptized on November 14, 1920 in Nicollet. He was confirmed in St. Peter on April 9, 1933 and graduated from Nicollet Public High School on May 29, 1940. On February 4, 1942, Ray was united in marriage to Harriet Voges at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland. Following his marriage, Ray joined the United States Navy and served from 1942-1945. Ray farmed in Nicollet County and worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. Ray enjoyed gardening, playing cards, watching the birds, going fishing and watching sports. Ray loved having company and particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. Ray was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Nicollet American Legion Post #510.
