Jack Goodell

—  Jack Goodell born in Mankato in 1930 and raised in Judson, died on March 31 at his son's home, surrounded by his family.  Jack's parents were Lawrence and Florence (Johnson) Goodell who preceded him in death, as did his older brother, Dean Goodell.  After graduation from Lake Crystal HS in 1948, he attended Mankato State and served in the United States Navy for 4 years during the Korean War.  He graduated from MSC in 1957 with a BS in Education.  That same year he married Alison Starr of Mankato.

Jack enjoyed a long and dedicated career- primarily as a special education teacher-  beginning in Ely, moving to Minneapolis, to Cloquet, and finally to Duluth where he worked in the Crisis Center.  In over 50 years of service, he helped many students to live better lives. He was an active artist and craftsman who also wrote stories of his idyllic boyhood in Judson.  He is remembered as a man of deep personal faith.

Jack is survived by his former wife, Alison; their four children, Robert, Nathan, Hilary and Leslie; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  In addition, he had many relatives from the Goodell and Johnson families and friends in this area.   On May 26 at 1:30 PM, Jack will join his father and mother in the family burial plot at Hebron Cemetery.   Those who wish to join the service are welcome and are invited to a luncheon at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Judson following the internment.  Hebron Cemetery is along County Road 62 (Hebron Drive), between Judson and Nicollet, at the top of the hill.
