Mary DeVlaeminck, born February 4, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John J. Rewa and Ida May Shawl.
Mary passed away at eighty-seven years young into the open arms of her Lord on March 20, 2013, at Madelia Luther Memorial Home surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013, Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel in Mankato from 2-5 p.m. and will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. Burial to follow at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, crocheting and spending time with her beloved family and her dog, Charlie.
In 1942, Mary moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Henry J. DeVlaeminck, Sr. He was stationed with the United States Army, Fort Custer, Battle Creek, Michigan. They met at the Coney Island Inn in Kalamazoo and on December 21, 1944,they married in Mankato, MN. Together they raised 14 children.
Mary is survived by her sons, Henry (Mick) and (Cheryl) of Fairfax; Gerald, Hartley, Iowa; David (Barbara) of Oak Hill, OR; Dale, Mankato; Ervin, Oronoco; Mark (Heidi), Madelia; daughters, Rosemary (David) Daugette, Albertville, AL; Roxanne (Doug) Spurling, Madison Lake; Karen (James) Rademacher, North Mankato; Sherry Baker, Mankato; Terry (Stanley) Young, Mankato; one daughter-in-law Debbie DeVlaeminck, Mankato. Also survived by 61 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 12-great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by Sister Julia Rewa, Centerville, MI. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Katty and (Kenny) Johnson, Mankato.
Preceded in death by her husband Henry, three sons, James, John, and Melvin; one daughter-in-law, Carol; one son-in-law, Allan Redig; 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Luther Memorial Home and also Hospice for the care provided during Mary's illness.
